Keeping our community informed on the latest standards for scientific integrity is a priority. The European Research Area (ERA) has just published its updated guidelines for the use of Generative AI in meetings or information management, while also drawing attention to the emerging risk of “hidden prompts”, namely invisible instructions embedded in documents that may influence the behaviour of AI tools.

What’s new in this update?

  • Human-Centricity: Reaffirmation that researchers are fully responsible for AI outputs.
  • Emerging Risks: New focus on "hidden prompts" and third-party AI use in meetings.
  • Data Security: Heightened emphasis on privacy and IP when sharing data with LLMs.

As “living” guidelines, they will continue to evolve with technology, and the Commission has opened an ongoing feedback channel so stakeholders across the European Research Area can contribute comments and suggestions at any time.

Stay informed and ensure your research practices align with the latest European standards.
