MFA Legal announces the strengthening of its team with the addition of two lawyers: Ana Rita Carvalho (tax) and Margarida Barahona (criminal, misdemeanours and compliance).
Ana Rita Carvalho joins MFA Legal from EY, where she was Tax Manager in the International Tax & Transaction Services Department. With extensive experience in the tax area, including an LLM from Leiden and teaching at the Catholic University, she joins the department led by Samuel Fernandes de Almeida and Joana Lobato Heitor as a Senior Associate.
For the past three years, Margarida Barahona has worked as a lawyer in the Segregated Internal Control Team of the "Recuperar Portugal" Mission Structure - Recovery and Resilience Plan. The lawyer, who joins the firm as an Associate, will strengthen the criminal law area, led by João Medeiros.

Before joining EY, Ana Rita Carvalho was part of the International Tax Law Department at Garrigues, where she worked for five years. She is currently a guest lecturer at Católica Porto Business School (Taxation and International Law). She holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and a master's degree in Tax Law from the Portuguese Catholic University - Porto School. In addition to several technical courses, Ana Rita Carvalho also holds an Advanced LL.M in European Tax Law from the International Tax Centre - Leiden University (Netherlands). She is a member of the Portuguese Tax Association (AFP) and the International Fiscal Association (IFA).
Margarida Barahona holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a Master's degree in Forensic Law from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University - Lisbon School. She also has a specialisation course in International and European Economic Criminal Law from the Institute of Economic and European Criminal Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra; a course in Crime and Taxation from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University - Lisbon School; and a postgraduate degree in Law Enforcement, Compliance and Corporate Responsibility from the Centre for Private Law Research at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. Her professional career includes positions at BAS, Albuquerque & Associados and SRS - Sociedade Rebelo de Sousa.
