Portugal is going to request the extradition of Diogo Santos Coelho, a 23-year-old Portuguese citizen whose extradition had already been requested by the USA, which is investigating him for the creation and management of RaidForums. The information was confirmed by the Public Prosecution Service of Portugal.
Diogo Santos Coelho is currently under house arrest in the UK, awaiting a decision on the US extradition case. "Diogo will now be arrested, this time under the process that concerns Portugal," explained Inês Almeida Costa, Managing Associate at MFA Legal, in an interview with CNN Portugal.
As for the extradition requested by the Portuguese state, the request will meanwhile be formulated by the Portuguese authorities, who will address it to the UK authorities. It will then be up to the British courts to decide what to do about the two conflicting extradition requests: the Portuguese and the US. "But given Diogo's ties to Portugal, it is likely that the Portuguese request will take precedence," believes Inês Almeida Costa.
